RE: Anyone hitching/unhitching pups themselves?

I got the factory backup camera with my pickup. Works like a charm.

RE: Decisions, Decisions

+1 on the TC. It's a great rig for the bachelor camper, and you can still tow the boat.

You can keep an eye on the classifieds at www.tundrasolutions.com. People are posting tow mirrors for sale or trade there all the time.

RE: Do I need a special hitch for the E3?

Toyota recommends WDH for any load over 5K on the Tundra. From the FFT website, the E3 has a GVWR of 4400#(2965 dry/1435 cargo). I would say either air bags or a WDH would be helpful, but not absolutely necessary. My Saratoga has a GVWR of 3500# and an unloaded TW of 345. I usually carry most of my heavy gear in the bed of the pickup. A set of Airlifts made a big difference for me.

RE: electrical questions 08' Niagara

We are having the same problem exactly as the original poster, except we have the 2007 Avalon. I'll have to have DH read this thread. He was going to ask the dealer when we take it in for the recall work on the lift next month.
IIRC, Chevy's come with the wiring in place, but you have to install the fuse to get power to the 7 pin's 12v line. Check the OM. I would still talk to the dealer about getting a 10ga charge line installed off the battery to handle the load of the fridge. A lot of vehicles come with power to the 12v line, but the wiring is too small to handle the amperage necessary to run the fridge and charge the batteries.

RE: electrical questions 08' Niagara

The fridges that come with the Fleetwood Highlanders pull 130w/11amps on 12v. Some vehicles aren't set up to deliver that kind of load constantly. A fridge running on 12v with the battery only will not cool very well and drain the battery very quickly. I had the dealer install a charge line coming directly off my battery into the 7 pin connector and haven't had any issues with my battery discharging in transit.

RE: 3 unsolicited offers to buy my PUP

Every time I have been out with the pup this year I have had at least one person with a TT come over and ask questions about the pup because they were considering switching to one. Highway 101 on the Oregon coast normally looks like an RV parade all summer, but they are few and far between this year.

RE: Frisco TX man says HOA won't let him park pickup on driveway

HOA's are only as good(or bad) as the people running them. If you want to live among the snobs, then you have to play by their rules.

RE: I should have never bought a Tundra!

and it only has daytime running lamps, I would have liked auto on lights. The payload (not GCVWR) is not that impressive either. I forget the numbers but Ford and Chevy have more.
The headlights will go off and on automatically if you leave them in the on position. I think the factory setting is a 4 minute delay for shutoff, but you can change the delay. Check the OM.

RE: GMC Pricing

In this market, you shouldn't be paying anything over invoice. In fact, you should be way under. When I was in the market for a pickup last year, the Chevy/GMC dealers didn't want to deal either. Oh well, their loss.

RE: New to towing, need some help.

+1 on going to the pup dealer. Even if you buy used, you need to check out the local dealers to see if you are comfortable with them. Having a good dealer should weigh very heavily on your decision of which brand to buy. There are other issues besides a hitch to consider when doing vehicle prep (trans. cooler, 7-pin connector, charge line/isolator, sway control, etc.). A dealer is the best place to educate yourself on what you need, and as others have said, they usually throw vehicle prep in with the deal if you are buying one of their units.

According to this, if she has the automatic, or the manual with tow pkg., the tow rating is 5K.

RE: How beneficial is a slide out dinette?

The slideout is great when you are camping. The extra space is definitely handy when you have 4 or 5 people in a pup. The only problem I have with ours is that we can't get to the fridge without popping up because the slideout blocks the aisle when pushed in.

RE: Really good buys on Tow Vehicles

There was talk of cutting the Titan or the Tundra or both. Anyone know any facts?
Toyota has suspended production of the Tundra for 3 months and only one of the two factories will be making it in the future. The Indiana plant is switching over to make the Prius. There are no plans to kill the Tundra. In fact, next year it is scheduled to come out in a 4.5L diesel. Every manufacturer is restructuring to adjust to the market right now.

RE: TT vs Hybrid vs Popup

For a pup, figure on getting about the same mileage as your truck gets in unloaded city driving. I get 14.5 with a 3500# pup in tow/haul mode. (if I keep my foot light on the pedal;) )

RE: Forest service campgrounds

Have you checked out Indian Henry campground on the Clackamas River? It's very nice and there are some sites that can accommodate a rig your size. It's also one of the few NF cg's that you can reserve. Timothy Lake has some nice spots too.

If you have any questions about the Tundra's abilities, go here and ask the people using them to tow. I have never heard any owners complain about their capability in that department.

RE: Smartest WD Hitch & anti-sway set-up 4 our Hybrid advice

Your trailer is the same dimensions as my popup (17', 2900# dry, 3500# GVWR). I added sway to the trailer and Airlifts to the truck and it pulls like a dream, even over bad roads. A 7500# WDH seems like overkill unless you intend to upgrade to a bigger TT at some point.
